    Description

Gem Quality 1863 J-299 Indian Cent

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-299, Pollock-359, R.3, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. This is a transitional or experimental issue produced from the regular coinage dies without L, and struck in the bronze composition to be introduced the following year among business strikes. Plain edge. Medallic die alignment as nearly always. We suspect this is on a thin planchet although the weight is not known. This is a lovely Gem proof with lightly mirrored fields and considerable orange mint color.(#70454)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29ED, PCGS# 70454)
