Description
Bronze 1863 Indian Cent, Judd-299
MS64 Red and Brown
1863 1C One Cent, Judd-299, Pollock-359, Snow-PT1, R.3, MS64 Red
and Brown PCGS. The regular issue designs for the 1863 Indian
cent. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Judd-299 is noteworthy as
the Mint's first experiment with bronze, which would become the
cent alloy the following year. Known with either a thin or thick
planchet. Though no weight is recorded on the insert, this appears
to be the rarer thick planchet example. The coruscating
golden-brown surfaces are fully struck, unabraded, and display only
moderate carbon.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 70453, Greysheet# 12495)
