    R.7 1863 Judd-300 Indian Cent Pattern

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-300, Pollock-360, 361, 362, R.7, MS65 PCGS. This appears to be only the second time we have offered a non-proof example of the rare Judd-300 cent. The present piece is graded a point finer than the specimen that we auctioned in May 2003. This pattern struck in regular copper-nickel uses the dies for the 1863 Indian cent, but the collar die is reeded, impressing the reeded edge that is faintly visible through the PCGS holder. This coin has pleasing copper-tan color with a reverse tinge of orange, and considerable cameo contrast. It is exceedingly sharply struck, with minimal carbon. The finest known at PCGS or NGC. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (4/06).
