    Reeded Edge Judd-300 1863 Indian Cent, MS64

1863 1C One Cent, Judd-300, Pollock-362, R.7, MS64 PCGS. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. To the best of our knowledge, Heritage has never previously auctioned a Judd-300 Cent. This pattern used regular issue 1863 Indian Cent dies, but the collar die delivered a reeded edge. Pollock, in his standard reference on Patterns, broke the single Judd variety into three Pollock variants, two with proof format and Pollock-362 as a business strike. This near-Gem is well struck, has dusky orange color, and impressive surfaces. The cheek has a small planchet flaw, as made. A die crack from the bust tip to the border, along with another from the shield tip to the left wreath end, will serve as diagnostics for other examples of this rare pattern. Population: 5 in 64, 0 finer (1/03).

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
