Description

1863 Washington Two Cent Piece, Judd-310

1863 2C Two Cents, Judd-310, Pollock-375, R.7, PR61 PCGS. The reverse closely resembles the regular dies 1864 Two Cent Piece, while the obverse exhibits a bust of Washington with the date below. Washington faces right, and has a ribbon binding his hair near his shoulder. GOD AND OUR COUNTRY consumes much of the obverse border. Judd-305 through Judd-311 provide the first portrait of the first president on U.S. coinage, if the privately issued Getz patterns are excluded. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. A well struck pattern with gold, orange, lime-green, and rose colors. The fields are moderately hairlined, as is appropriate for the grade.(#60465)
