    Description

1863 With Motto Half Dollar in Silver
    Judd-340, PR64
    Struck November 16, 1863

1863 50C Half Dollar, Judd-340, Pollock-412, Low R.6, PR64 PCGS. Similar to the regular issue Seated half dollar of 1863, but the unadorned motto GOD OUR TRUST is set directly into the field above the eagle. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. According to George Eckfeldt's journal entry for November 16, 1863, 30 sets of these halves were struck that date in silver and another 20 sets in copper for Governor Pollock. Almost brilliant, the fields are deeply mirrored and the appearance is well-matched from side to side.
