    Unusual Three-Cent Pattern, Judd-319

1863 Three-Cents, Judd-319, Pollock-384, R.5-6, PR64 Brown PCGS. The obverse is similar to the old Braided Hair Large cent design with much smaller digits in the date. The reverse has 3 CENTS in the center and is surrounded by a laurel wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the margin. Struck in bronze or copper with a plain edge. The lovely, glossy-brown surfaces show a few small specks of carbon that account for the grade, but there are no obvious contact marks on either side. A spot of blazing red color shows over the O in OF on the reverse. An attractive example of this scarce pattern issue.
