    1864 Dime in Copper, Maybe a Dozen Known

    1864 10C Ten Cents, Judd-381, Pollock-449, R.7, PR66 Red NGC. Regular die trials issue for the Seated dime. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The various denominations dated 1864 are actually backdated novodels, according to Pieces were struck in copper, aluminum, and nickel. The copper strikings are by far the most easily found, but still only about a dozen are known. This is a deeply mirrored example with even reddish-orange color. A number of light spots are scattered over each side.
