Description

1864 1C One Cent, Judd-353, Pollock-425, R.5(?), MS64 PCGS. Previously offered as lot 9459 in our June Long Beach Sale, where it was described as, "Indian cent pattern struck from the regular dies without the L initial on the bust of the Indian. Struck in an aluminum-bronze alloy with a plain edge. There are three different alloys these pieces were struck in, and they are apparently indistinguishable without elemental analysis. The 5-10% aluminum alloy gives the coin a brass-like appearance. Most often seen with noticeable striking deficiencies, this piece displays only the slightest softness on the tips of the feathers in the headdress. The deep brown surfaces show a bright dash of yellow around part of the margins on each side. A lovely, high-end coin for the grade."

Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 70520, Greysheet# 12607)
