    Description

    1864 No L Indian Cent, MS65
    Judd-353, Aluminum-Bronze Alloy

1864 1C No L Indian Cent, Judd-353, Pollock-425, Snow-PT1a-2, Low R.6, MS65 NGC. CAC. Indian cent pattern struck from the regular dies without the L initial on the bust of the Indian. Struck in an aluminum-bronze alloy with a plain edge. Pollock-425 comes with a 5% aluminum alloy (Judd-354), a 7% aluminum alloy (Judd-353), and a 10% aluminum alloy (Judd-355). The three Judd varieties are not readily distinguished without elemental analysis. Usually seen with noticeable striking deficiencies, but the present Gem shows excellent definition on the feather tips and at the bottom of the truncation of the bust of the Indian. The surfaces are pumpkin-gold save for a blush of tan toning on the upper obverse. Census: 2 in 65, 1 finer (5/18).
