Reflective, Fiery Red 1864 With Motto Half in Copper, Judd-392

1864 50C Half Dollar, Judd-392, Pollock-460, R.7, PR64 Red PCGS. Struck from the regular obverse die, and paired with the regular reverse die of 1866 with the motto above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. These and the other "With Motto" patterns of this date, and also 1863 and 1865, are actually restrikes made in the early 1870s and were offered with restrikes of the other denominations in complete sets. Approximately a dozen pieces are known in copper. Most of the original fire of the copper alloy is abundantly evident on each side of this lovely striking. A few small carbon spots are scattered over each side and keep this piece from a full Gem grade.
