Copper Striking of the 1864 Half Dime
    Judd-378, PR64 Brown

1864 H10C Half Dime, Judd-378, Pollock-446, Low R.7, PR64 Brown PCGS. Regular dies trial striking for the 1864 half dime. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. There seems to be no logical reason for striking half dimes in 1864 in copper, aluminum, and nickel. More than likely, these pieces were struck as part of complete off-metal sets for the year. Only a dozen or so are believed to exist in copper. Each side has mellowed to a rich brown, with underlying mint red faintly evident. Fully struck.
