Struck on a Thin Planchet

1864 P1C Indian Cent, Judd-356b, Pollock-426a, Snow-PT1c, R.7, MS65 PCGS. CAC. 44.4 grains. No L. Broad Bust tip. Plain edge. Struck from regular issue dies on a thin planchet with a copper-nickel alloy designated by PCGS as 88% copper, 11.6% nickel, and 0.4% aluminum. Regular issue 1864 copper-nickel cents weigh about 72 grains. Rick Snow lists 6 proofs and 2 Mint State examples in his PT1c roster. On the present lot, the 864 in the date is repunched, matching the Snow-2 variety for 1864 Bronze No L cents. Both sides are prominently clashed. A lustrous and splendidly preserved peach-gold Gem.
