Transitional 1865 Seated Dollar in Copper
    Judd-435, PR64 Red and Brown

1865 $1 One Dollar, Judd-435, Pollock-508, Low R.7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. The obverse die is the design adopted for regular-issue coinage of silver dollars in 1865. The reverse die is the design adopted for use in 1866, with a scroll containing the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added above the eagle's head. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Probably a dozen or so examples of this scarce and popular With Motto issue are believed known. Each side shows significant amounts of original mint red, but it has mellowed just a bit. The devices are sharply struck throughout, and the obverse fields display horizontal striations that were not polished out of the die. (NGC ID# 29JL, PCGS# 70620)
