    1865 Judd-426 Quarter in Copper, PR64 Brown
    'Transitional' Pattern

1865 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-426, Pollock-498, Low R.7, PR64 Brown PCGS. Similar to the adopted design of 1866, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST has been placed on a scroll in the reverse field above the eagle. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Sharp design elements are set against deeply reflective fields amid varying shades of auburn, olive, and coppery-brown toning. A few faint specks do not detract. This variety is rare in any grade, with only a dozen or slightly more specimens believed known. These dies also struck examples in silver and aluminum, all rare.
