Silver-Plated 1865 Two Cent Piece, Judd-408
1865 2C Two Cents, Judd-408, High R.7, PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a PR60 specimen that is corroded. This is the regular dies trial piece for the 1865 two cent piece. These coins were allegedly struck in native Michigan ore. Seen here the coin is copper and has been silver plated. The surfaces are not as bad as they might sound. Some of the silver plating has begun to flake off and the copper core of the coin is beginning to show the pimply evidence of corrosion on the reverse.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 60587, GSID# 12769)
