    Description

1865 Three Cent Nickel in Oroide
    Judd-414, PR63

1865 3C Three Cent Nickel, Judd-414, Pollock-485, High R.7, PR63 PCGS. Struck from plain edge regular issue dies, but in oroide alloy. Oroide is a brass alloy that has a pale gold color. This is an extremely rare pattern with only four examples certified by the combined forces of NGC and PCGS (3/18). Each side is bright with a few scattered contact marks. There is evidence of die clashing in the obverse fields, but we do not see clash marks in the reverse fields.
