Description

Select 1865 Five Dollar, Judd-446

1865 $5 Five Dollar, Judd-446, Pollock-518, High R.6, PR63 Brown NGC. A transitional pattern, with the obverse featuring the regular Liberty Head or Coronet Head design. The reverse is also similar to the regular 1865 issue, except for the scroll above the eagle that reads IN GOD WE TRUST. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The reverse of the present example appears to still be about 30% mint red, with the balance magenta and brown. The obverse shows some iridescent blue, green, and magenta. Well struck and attractive despite spots on the upper arrowhead and the reverse rim at 9 o'clock.
