    Description

1865 With Motto Half Dollar in Silver
    Judd-429, PR65+

1865 50C Half Dollar, Judd-429, Pollock-502, Low R.7, PR65+ PCGS. The obverse die is the traditional Liberty Seated design adopted for regular coinage in 1865. The reverse features the familiar perched eagle with scroll and motto above that was adopted for regular issues in 1866. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Unlike previous years when With Motto coinage was produced, some of the 1865 halves may be actual transitional pieces. About a dozen examples are known in silver with a similar number in copper. Much original brilliance remains, especially on the reverse; while each side shows light blue and rose toning as well. Fully struck.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29JF, PCGS# 60614)
