    1866 Two Cent in Copper-Nickel
    Judd-458, PR66

1866 2C Two Cent, Judd-458, Pollock-532, High R.7, PR66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Simpson. Struck from regular dies and previously believed to be a dies trial striking, these pieces were undoubtedly struck for sale to collectors. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge. Examples were also produced in nickel and both compositions are equally rare with only two or three pieces believed extant of each. This is the first copper-nickel striking we have record of handling. The surfaces show remarkably undimmed color with much of the "white" color 1856-1864 Indian cents were known for when new. This particular piece is readily identifiable by a spot in the wreath below the R in TRUST and another, smaller on on the right side of the shield. Bright and highly reflective.
