1866 Washington Head Five Cent, PR66 ★ Cameo
    Brilliant Judd-473 Example

1866 5C Five Cent, Baker-40, Judd-473, Pollock-564, R.6, PR66 ★ Cameo NGC. CAC. Ex: Bass/ANA Museum Display. The Washington Head motif, the president facing the viewer's right, with IN GOD WE TRUST above and a tiny date 1866 near the bust truncation, with the last 6 noticeably larger and higher. The reverse employs the normal With Rays Shield nickel reverse of 1866 (as evidence, we point to the tiny centering point and repunching on the left side of the 5 known from the regular proof reverse, mentioned in Bowers' Shield nickel Guide Book). Struck in nickel with a plain edge. This piece offers bold contrast and untoned, highly reflective surfaces. Some tiny raised die lines appear just left of the date. The different-sized last digit is likely explained by the existence of a three-digit 186 logo punch with a blank for the final digit. Perhaps a digit for a slightly larger coin such as a two cent piece was used for the final 6.
Ex: Purchased from Lee F. Hewitt, 4/17/1972; Harry W. Bass, Jr. Research Foundation. Accompanied by an inventory tag showing provenance. HBCC-6062 (Bass Sylloge number).

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
