Judd-473, Issued Rays Reverse

1866 5C Five Cents, Judd-473, Pollock-564, R.6, PR64 PCGS. CAC. Many varieties of Washington five cent patterns are known, but the familiar Shield design was issued instead. The IN GOD WE TRUST Washington obverse die of Judd-464 through Judd-472 is paired with the issued Rays reverse design. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Dappled chestnut-gold and pearl-gray toning confirms the originality of the well struck, undisturbed, and moderately mirrored surfaces. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 10 in 64, 3 finer. CAC: 2 in 64, 1 finer (12/25).
