    Description

Rare and Desirable 1866 Washington Five Cent Pattern, Judd-485

1866 5C Five Cents, Judd-485, Pollock-574, High R.7, PR66 PCGS. Washington portrait for the five cent piece with bust facing right on the obverse, GOD AND OUR COUNTRY above, and the date in small letters below. The reverse has a large 5 in the center, surrounded by a thick laurel wreath, which is in turn surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at the top margin. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. It is believed that fewer than a dozen examples are known in copper and bronze alloy of this rare and highly desirable pattern. Deeply reflective, the reddish-lilac surfaces have taken on an even overlay of brown patina on each side. Identifiable by a small carbon spot between the TA in STATES.
