1866 5C Five Cents, Judd-490, Pollock-578, Low R.7, PR66 Brown PCGS. CAC. Shield design obverse, similar to that adopted, but with a smaller motto and date divided at the base of the shield. Knobbed or "Dutch" 5 inside a laurel wreath on the reverse. Struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com estimates about a dozen J-490 copper examples are known. This fully struck Premium Gem displays satiny chestnut brown patina complemented by lavender, sea-green, and electric-blue toning. A tiny strikethrough above the 1 in the date serves as a pedigree marker. PCGS Population: 2 in 66, 1 finer. CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (6/26).
