Choice Proof 1866 Rays Shield Nickel
Transitional Pattern, Judd-507
1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-507, Pollock-591, R.5, PR64
PCGS. This design is considered a prototype of the 1867 No Rays
proof nickel, similar aside from the star layout but dated 1866.
Struck in nickel with a plain edge. This straw-gold and cream-gray
Choice proof is fully struck and well preserved, although the
fields are moderately subdued. Housed in a green label holder.
