    Description

Second 1866 Copper Shield Nickel Pattern
    Judd-508, PR66 Red and Brown

1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-508, Pollock-592, High R.6, PR66 Red and Brown NGC. Same design and metallic composition as the coin above, and also with a plain edge. This is unusual. A High R.6 pattern is estimated to only have 13-20 survivors. In this auction we have two, both in PR66 Red and Brown, and both are from the same consignor. That is the total number certified in this grade by both services (except for one PR66 Brown by NGC) and none are finer. The fields are brightly reflective on this example and the surfaces show a beautiful mixture of pinkish-cherry red and lime-green. Slight cameo contrast can also be seen on each side. (NGC ID# 29L7, PCGS# 70704)
