    1866 Shield Nickel in Bronze
    Judd-509, PR66 Red and Brown

    1866 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-509, Pollock-592, High R.6, PR66 Red and Brown PCGS Secure. CAC. The obverse is the shield design used to coin regular issue 1866 nickels, the reverse is the regular issue type without rays that was adopted in 1867. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. The obverse displays rich red and blue coloration, while the reverse shows an almost silvery center surrounded by a wide margin of cobalt-blue. Remarkably clean surfaces.
