Description

1867 Copper Quarter, Regular Dies Trial
    Judd-590, PR64 Red and Brown

1867 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-590, Pollock-654, High R.7, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. Regular dies trial issue. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. These off-metal strikings were likely struck for sale to collectors as part of complete copper sets. USPatterns.com states that T. Harrison Garrett owned a set (this piece is from that set) and a double set is owned by the Iowa State Historical Department. Probably only half a dozen examples are known. This piece is alleged to have brown on it, but we are hard-pressed to find it. Each side is a rich cherry-red, and several specks and spots of carbon appear with nicely reflective fields.
    Ex: Garrett (Stack's, 3/1976), part of lot 677. (NGC ID# 29MK, PCGS# 70802)
