    Description

1867 Copper Die Trial Half Dollar, Judd-591

1867 50C Half Dollar, Judd-591, Pollock-655, R.7--Scratched, Damaged--ANACS. Proof, Net PR55. Regular die trials issue, struck in copper with a reeded edge. Probably a dozen or so pieces are known of this die trial, which was most likely deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete copper sets. Several light scratches and a couple of deep gouges in the right obverse field appear to be test cuts that were perhaps done to determine if this piece was copper plated. Deep reddish-brown color covers the rest of the surfaces.
Ex: Pre-Long Beach Sale (Superior, 2/00), lot 856.

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
