    Description

1867 5C Five Cents, Judd-583, Pollock-643, R.8, PR55 PCGS. The obverse is similar to that used on the regular issue three cent nickel. The reverse is the adopted type of the 1867 No Rays nickel. Struck in silver with a plain edge. This is an originally toned example with variegated tan, silver-gray, olive, and midnight-blue colors. The surfaces are free of both excessive wear and distracting blemishes. This is the only example of this rare variety known to NGC and PCGS (5/01), and it may be the specimen from the Palace Collection that Pollock mentions in his book on patterns.
Ex: 1973 FUN Auction (RARCOA, 1/73), lot 578.
From the Lynch Collection. (PCGS# 60795)
