    Beautiful Copper 1867 Shield 'Nickel' Pattern, Judd-573, PR65 Red and Brown

    1867 5C Shield Five Cents, Judd-573, Pollock-649, 650, Low R.6, PR65 Red and Brown NGC. Pollock Reverse B. This pattern is from the regular No Rays Shield nickel dies, but struck in copper with a plain edge. There are two reverse varieties. On the Pollock Reverse B--used for the proof 1867 Shield nickels, according to the Judd ninth edition--stars point to the left foot of the A and the right edge of the E in STATES, and in CENTS to the center of the E and the center of the T. This piece displays beautiful deep yellow, magenta, and olive-brown hues on each side, with brilliant luster underneath, with a premium appearance. (NGC ID# 29ME, PCGS# 70783)
