Bright, Unoxidized Aluminum 1868 Ten Dollar Pattern
Judd-663, PR62

1868 $10 Ten Dollar, Judd-663, Pollock-736, Low R.6, PR62 PCGS. CAC. The obverse has a bust of Liberty facing left, wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. Around, 13 stars, and below, the date. On the reverse, an eagle with wings spread clutches three arrows and an olive branch. A ribbon carries the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Around, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and below, the denomination TEN D. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. About a dozen aluminum examples are known, in addition there are copper pieces and four known in gold. This presents the collector with an interesting alternative--to collect gold patterns in off metals. The surfaces are bright and unoxidized. A few light hairlines are present, and each side shows slight, but noticeable cameo contrast.
