1868 Braided Hair Ten Cents in Nickel, Judd-647

1868 10C Ten Cents, Judd-647, Pollock-720, Low R.6, PR65 PCGS. The obverse features the almost identical design used on Large Cents from 1843 to 1857, while the reverse is similar to the Coronet Type Large Cent except the wreath is smaller and open and TEN CENTS is in the center of the wreath. The top of a stray letter, probably an A, is noted between AM in AMERICA. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. It is probable that these patterns were prepared simply to exhibit the size and weight of the suggested coin rather than to illustrate a proposed design. A few faint flyspecks are seen over the modestly reflective obverse, while numerous die striations angle across the reverse.
