1868 Cent, Struck in Nickel

Ex: Harry W. Bass, Jr.

1868 1C Cent, Judd-608, Pollock-673, R.4, PR66 PCGS. Ex: Bass Collection. Eagle Eye Photo Seal, card included. The design closely resembles the contemporary three cent nickel, but only a single pillar represents the denomination within the wreath, and the ribbon ends are more prominent. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Struck from Bass Variety I and Pollock Variety 2, with the 1 in the date centered over a dentil. A sharply struck specimen bathed in light and consistent wheat-gold patina.
