    Description

Highly Elusive 1868 Pattern Cent, Judd-609

1868 1C One Cent, Judd-609, Pollock-674, High R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS. Same design as the piece above, but seen here in copper with a plain edge. These patterns were issued in sets along with the 3 cent (Judd-618-Judd-620) and 5 cent (Judd-633-Judd-634). Probably fewer than a half dozen pieces are known of this design in copper. The obverse shows much remaining red color with a slight overlay of browning, while the reverse is more uniformly brown in color. On the left side of the obverse is either a semi-circular planchet flaw (unlikely, we believe) or traces of a guide line. (PCGS# 70821)
