    1868 Aluminum Three Cent Nickel
    Judd-621, PR62

    1868 3C Three Cent Nickel, Judd-621, Pollock-690, Low R.7, PR62 PCGS. Regular dies trial issue for the three cent nickel. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Nicely reflective and cameoed on each side, a number of small contact marks and several spots of oxidation explain the grade of this piece. This passage from the USPatterns.com website reinforces the legitimacy of this particular metallurgical strike: "These were deliberately struck to show how easily aluminum coined ... "
