Description

1868 Three Cent Nickel Pattern, Judd-618, PR63 PCGS

1868 3CN Three Cent Nickel, Judd-618, Pollock-687, R.5, PR63 PCGS. Similar to the regular issue, but from an entirely different die. The Roman numerals on the reverse are smooth and without ribs. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. Both sides are overlaid in slate-gray patina that does not, however, conceal the moderately bright fields at all angles. Singularly tiny carbon flecks pepper the surfaces and account for the grade, but the sharp features have the outward appearance of a Choice designation.

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29NA, PCGS# 60834, GSID# 13163)
