    Description

    Attractively Toned 1869 Judd-702
    Standard Silver Dime, PR64

    1869 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-702, Pollock-781, R.5, PR64 NGC.
    Design.
On the obverse a right-facing Liberty wears a starless tiara with a plain band. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA borders the upper periphery, with IN GOD WE TRUST in a curved ribbon below. The reverse shows STANDARD SILVER around the upper edge, with 10 / CENTS in an oak and laurel wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.

    Commentary.
Pollock (1994) writes: "Adams and Woodin report that nine-piece sets of the different 'Standard Silver' designs and denominations were offered by the Mint for $15. Some sixty-nine sets are said to have been actually made, although some one hundred sets were originally planned." The Mint selected silver, copper, and aluminum planchets to strike the many different combinations of the Standard Silver patterns. Of the three, silver was used most often, especially with a reeded edge collar. As such, the current offering is typically selected due to availability.

    Physical Description.
Pleasing pastel coloration--a blend of faded violet and powder-blue--is equally dispersed on both sides of this pleasing silver pattern and the strike is bold for the issue. Considering the assigned grade, the current piece offers abundant eye appeal. NGC Census: 7 in PR64, 6 finer. PCGS Population: 10 in PR64, 11 finer (12/08).

    Provenance.
    Ex: Gibson-Groves Collections (Stack's, 11/1974), lot 453.
