    1869 Cent Struck in Nickel
    Judd-666, PR64

1869 1C One Cent, Judd-666, Pollock-741, R.5, PR64 NGC. The obverse exhibits a bust of Liberty facing left with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery and the date below the bust. Liberty wears a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. A Roman numeral I is centered in a laurel wreath on the reverse. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. These pieces were struck in nickel and copper, from at least three obverse dies and two reverse dies. This piece pairs Obverse 1 with Reverse A: the date is right with the 9 centered beneath a curl, the L in LIBERTY is positioned beneath the 2nd and 3rd pearls and the reverse shows broad ribbon ends. The nickel-gray surfaces show a few tiny specks of carbon on each side.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
