Description

1869 Three Cent Nickel Pattern, PR12
Judd-676, Pollock-753

1869 3CN Three Cent Nickel, Judd-676, Pollock-753, R.4, PR12 NGC. The design is similar to the business-strike three cent nickel of 1869, but the date is larger and the pillars in the denomination are smooth. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. The Judd-676 issue was divided into two varieties by Andrew Pollock, with this coin representing the more available Pollock-753 type, with short dentils and a low wreath.

The present coin is evenly worn and retains all major design detail intact, at least in outline. Some interior detail is still legible and the nickel-gray surfaces are minimally abraded for the grade.

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29PV, PCGS# 60901, Greysheet# 13347)
