    Struck in Aluminum, Gilt

1869 $5 Five Dollar, Judd-776 Gilt, Pollock-862, High R.7, PR60 ANACS. Produced using the regular-issue half eagle dies for the year 1869. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. This example, one of six or so pieces struck in this metal, was subsequently gilt and resembles a normal coin for circulation, save for the semiprooflike surface quality.
