Gem 1869 Seated Half in Aluminum, Judd-761

1869 50C Half Dollar, Judd-761, Pollock-845, Low R.7, PR65 PCGS. A dies trial piece struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Complete denomination sets were made in aluminum, possibly for honorable reasons such as presentation, or a trade to improve the mint cabinet. The icy devices are suitably struck, and exhibit obvious contrast with the darkly mirrored fields, although the older generation green label insert lacks a Cameo designation. A few minor retained laminations preclude perfection.
