1869 Die Trial Half Dollar in Aluminum PR67, Judd-761

1869 50C Half Dollar, Judd-761, Pollock-845, Low R.7, PR67 NGC. Regular die trials issue for the Seated Half Dollar. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. These pieces were deliberately struck by the Mint for sale to collectors as part of off-metal sets. Fewer than a half dozen are known today and this piece is certainly among the finest extant. The fields are deeply mirrored and show no traces of oxidation. The devices are heavily frosted and present a strong cameo contrast against the deeply reflective fields. A pair of tiny U-shaped lintmarks to the left of the portrait can be used for attribution on this Superb aluminum pattern.(#60992) (PCGS# 60992)
