1869 Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-742
1869 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-742, Pollock-823, R.5-6, PR 64 PCGS. The obverse displays William Barber's bust of Liberty facing right and wearing a cap ornamented with two stars. The legend UNITED OF AMERICA is around the portrait and IN GOD WE TRUST is on a scroll at the bottom. The reverse shows the denomination 50 CENTS enclosed by a wreath of oak and laurel leaves. STANDARD SILVER is above and the date 1869 is below. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This richly toned near-Gem is swimming in lavender and gray colors with bright electric-blue undertones evident on the reverse. The proof qualities are concealed at all but a few angles, but there do not appear to be any distractions that would bar this example from an even higher grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29SS, PCGS# 60969, GSID# 13348)
