    Description

Affordable 1869 Five Cent Nickel Pattern, Judd-684

1869 5C Five Cents, Judd-684, Pollock-763, R.5--Corroded--ANACS. XF Details, Net PR20. An affordable example of this interesting pattern, which attempted to unify the designs of the contemporary Three Cent Nickel and Five Cent piece. The design of a large Roman Numeral V within a wreath would eventually find its way onto circulating coinage with the 1883 Liberty Nickel. Struck in nickel with a plain edge. A few small dark pits are noted behind Liberty's eye, a faint pinscratch reaches her nose, and the right half of the reverse has a mint-made lamination streak.(#60909)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29R3, PCGS# 60909)
