1870 Barber Seated Dollar, PR63 Brown
    Judd-1005, Struck in Copper

1870 $1 Dollar, Judd-1005, Pollock-1137, Low R.6, PR63 Brown NGC. The obverse portrays a seated figure of Liberty with shield and olive branch. A scroll is draped over the shield with the word LIBERTY inscribed and a Liberty pole stands behind the shield. Thirteen stars surround the central devices, with the date in the exergue. The reverse is the design used for regular-issue coinage in 1870. Struck in copper with a plain edge. This William Barber design was employed with the regular reverse dies for the dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar. The coins were sold in sets, and available in silver, copper, and aluminum with plain or reeded edges. Vibrant ice-blue toning covers deep glossy brown surfaces. Smooth and fully struck with terrific eye appeal.
