1870 William Barber Seated Dollar in Copper
    Judd-1005, PR64 Red and Brown

1870 $1 Dollar, Judd-1005, Pollock-1137, R.6, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. William Barber's Seated Liberty design, with Liberty seated facing left surrounded by 13 stars and holding a scroll and shield in her left (facing) hand; a short branch with leaves is in the other. A pole and pileus cap rise on the other side. The reverse is from the regular issue Seated Liberty dollar. Struck in copper with a plain edge. Only a dozen pieces are believed known of this striking variant with a similar number of reeded edge copper pieces estimated extant. Silver and aluminum strikes were also produced. The obverse displays a significant outline of bright, original mint red around the devices on that side with brown evident in the more exposed areas. The reverse, however, shows deep iridescent tones. Fully struck.
