1870 Standard Silver Ten Cent in Silver

1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-826, Pollock-916, High
R.6, PR64 PCGS. William Barber's Seated Liberty design. A
seated representation of Liberty faces left. Behind is a
free-standing pole topped with a Liberty cap. Liberty's right hand
rests upon a shield with a scroll inscribed LIBERTY. The statutory
legend follows the border, and the date is below. The reverse has
the denomination, 10 CENTS, inside a wreath composed of corn and
cotton. Above is the word STANDARD. The reverse rim is much wider
than the obverse rim. Struck in silver with a plain edge. Examples
with this obverse / reverse combination were struck in silver,
copper, and aluminum, each in both reeded and plain edge formats.
Only a dozen or so pieces are known in silver with a plain edge and
a similar number with a reeded edge. Rich turquoise and gray-blue
toning covers each side with bright underlying mirrors in the
fields. The most obvious pedigree identifier on this example is a
spot of lighter color at 10 o'clock on the obverse.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 29V3, PCGS# 61070)
