    Attractive 1870 Standard Silver Dime
    Judd-868, PR65

    1870 10C Standard Silver Ten Cents, Judd-868, Pollock-964, Low R.7, PR65 NGC.
    Design.
    Obverse Liberty Head with hairbun and star on headband, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, motto IN GOD WE TRUST on scroll below. Reverse 10 / CENTS inside a small oak and laurel wreath. STANDARD SILVER, in large letters, arcs along the top half of the reverse rim. The date 1870 is at the lower reverse rim. Struck in silver with a plain edge.

    Commentary.
    Ranked Low R.7 by the Judd reference book, somewhat rarer than its High R.6 reeded edge counterpart, Judd-867. There are 12 Judd-867s at NGC and PCGS combined, compared to nine Judd-868s.

    Physical Description.
    Pinkish-gold tinges predominate, with hints of ice-blue and some minor planchet striations evident on the reverse. A sharply struck and attractive Gem example. NGC Census: 4 in PR65, 1 finer. PCGS Population: 3 in PR65, none finer (12/08).
