    Description

    Outstanding 1870 Standard Silver
    Quarter in Copper, Judd-878
    PR66 Brown, Finest Certified

    1870 25C Standard Silver Quarter Dollar, Judd-878, Pollock-975, Low R.7, PR66 Brown NGC.
    Design.
William Barber's Seated Liberty design with a Liberty pole behind with a Phrygian cap atop and 13 stars around the margin. The reverse has 25 CENTS in the center, surrounded by a thick agricultural wreath with STANDARD in small letters at the top. Struck in copper with a reeded edge.

    Commentary.
Judd-878, part of the series of 1870 patterns without a country identification, is a rarity with less than a dozen known examples. NGC and PCGS together have seen 11 certification events, less the usual possible duplications.

    Physical Description.
While NGC calls this Premium Gem proof "brown," it is more accurately described as having violet, rose, and blue toning, over deep olive surfaces. Both sides are boldly detailed and highly attractive. This outstanding piece is the single finest certified at NGC and PCGS within any color designation (11/08).

    Provenance.
    Ex: Stack's (4/1971), lot 741.
From The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two. (PCGS# 61122)
